Well, the concept of marriage is fairly new and human relationships weren’t always like this. There’s a lot of good science that suggests we lived as a community sans monogamous romantic partners until fairly recently (on the evolutionary scale). The predominant narratives in our culture (myths, stories, religion, etc.) dictate the beliefs and therefore the behaviour of individuals. It’s no one’s fault; it’s just the way we’ve evolved.
